Down Quality

Highest quality
The highest quality of down comes from a fully mature goose that lives in a cold region of the world. Goose down is superior to duck down with the exception of Eider Duck Down. Siberian, Hungarian and Canadian goose comforters are still considered the best goose down suppliers.

Lower quality
Low quality down comes from duck or from young birds. The down fibers are weaker and break down. Down from these young birds have less loft, as well. Mature duck down is actually better than immature goose down. A big difference between goose and duck down is odor. Goose down has little to no odor. If it does not say goose down on the label, It is most likely duck down and a lot less expensive.

Fluffiness / Loft
The loftier the better. We call the loft, fill power.
Higher fill power means your down comforter will last longer.
Fill Power =The space one ounce of down occupies in cubic inches.
800+ = Best quality comforters
700+ = Better quality comforters
600+ = Good quality comforters

Color
Down color has nothing to do with the quality. The color you choose is all about what you like. Consider that you may not want to have grey showing through a white or translucent duvet cover. If you are choosing darker colors of duvets gray down is just fine. If you want a white duvet choose white.
